Tor

In general Tor is an application for safer internet access. By encrypting traffic and using a distributed network of relays (the Tor network) it obfuscates the physical location of its users. This technique is called Onion routing and can help protecting against censorship, tracking, and surveillance.

One of the most famous applications is probably the Tor Browser, a hardened Firefox Extended Support Release including the Tor client program. It's used to browse the internet safely and access onion services (such as anonymous websites).
